Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i3 In a time-lagged survey of university students using generative AI, AI literacy was strongly and positively associated with critical AI evaluation (β = 0.893, f² = 3.916); the survey design cannot show that literacy causes the evaluation. → Gao L 2026
Evidence¶
Gao L 2026¶
Gao L, Sun Y and Khan SU (2026) From enhancement to over-reliance: a mixed-method study of generative AI and sustainable learning performance. Front. Psychol. 17:1847369. https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2026.1847369

Three-wave time-lagged survey of Chinese university students analyzed with PLS-SEM; the path from AI literacy to critical AI evaluation was β = 0.893 (t = 111.167, p < 0.001, f² = 3.916), which the authors call a very large effect. The abstract words this as AI literacy "enhances" critical AI evaluation, but the design is correlational and cannot establish cause.
"The findings reveal that AI literacy significantly enhances critical AI evaluation, which, along with self-regulated learning, promotes effective AI use."
Discussion¶
Learner Variables¶
- Digital Literacy — predictor: learners who differ on it differ in outcomes
- Academic and Critical Literacy — outcome: instruction changes it
