Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i? AI-assisted completion was faster by 26.14 seconds on difficult tasks, with no difference for easy tasks; only three individual tasks were significantly faster with AI. → Sunny Yu 2026

In the completion-sample analysis, "task completion with AI assistance was faster by 26.14 seconds" on difficult tasks only. Per-task comparisons (Figure 3) showed significant time savings for just three tasks: generating ten synonyms for a word, summarizing a long article, and editing a long text.
"AI assistance only made difficult tasks faster, and not easy ones: task completion with AI assistance was faster by 26.14 seconds (SE=11.9,z=2.19,p<0.05) on difficult tasks, but no difference between independent completion time and AI-assisted completion time was found for easy tasks."
Discussion¶
Learner Variables¶
- Time and Continuity — outcome: instruction changes it
Related Claims¶
- AI assistance reduces subjective mental effort across all tasks even when it does not reduce completion time, dissociating time and effort — related
- People significantly underestimate AI-assisted completion times on simple cognitive tasks, even though AI assistance saves little or no actual time (the speedup illusion) — related
- No AI participants spent roughly 1.5 times as long on the assessment as AI-Assisted participants, descriptively reported as a marker of offloading — related
- AI assistance provides no significant overall time savings and can slow completion on easy task variants, with chat-interface friction (prompting time) dominating on trivial tasks — related
