Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q2 i? In a four-group experiment, one-way ANOVA found no significant effect of playback speed (1x, 1.5x, 2x, 2.5x) on comprehension test performance for audio-only clips, and Tukey post-hoc comparison of 1x vs 2.5x approached but did not reach significance. → Ashley Chen 2024

Experiment 1 randomly assigned 200 undergraduates to listen to two Science Podcast audio clips at 1x, 1.5x, 2x, or 2.5x speed before a 30-item multiple-choice test per topic. The ANOVA showed "no significant effect of speed" and the 1x vs 2.5x Tukey comparison was ptukey = 0.051, with BF01 = 4.83 favoring the null.
"There was no significant effect of speed, F(3, 219) = 2.40, p = 0.069, BF01 = 4.83, and Tukey’s post-hoc anal-ysis indicated no differences between the 1x and 2.5x speed groups’ performance, t(396) = 2.57, ptukey = 0.051, BF01 = 0.29."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Audio-visual lecture clips produce better comprehension than audio-only clips, and the multimedia advantage holds at accelerated speed — related
- Interest and familiarity positively predict comprehension of speeded audio clips, but the benefit of familiarity decreases as playback speed increases — related
- Textual slide content yields a small comprehension advantage over pictorial slide content in speeded audio-visual lectures, with no effect of speed — related
- Computer-based distractions (phone calls, texts, emails, notifications) do not significantly impair comprehension of lecture videos at 1x or 2x speed — related
