Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i3 Speech intelligibility scores correlated significantly with Ra scores (r(21) = +0.42, p < 0.05) and with Rv scores (r(17) = +0.54, p < 0.01). → Lorin Lachs 2001

Simple bivariate correlations between speech intelligibility (Beginner's Intelligibility Test sentences transcribed by three naïve adult listeners; mean 17.13% words correct, range 2%–45%) and audiovisual gain. The printed effect sizes are r(21) = +0.42 for Ra and r(17) = +0.54 for Rv, the latter exceeding the r ≥ .37 threshold for a large correlation.
"The analysis revealed a significant correlation between the speech intelligibility scores and Ra scores, r(21) = +0.42, p < 0.05. We also observed a significant relationship between speech intelligibility and Rv scores, r(17) = +0.54, p < 0.01."

Related Claims¶
- Children with higher auditory-alone spoken word recognition scores show higher audiovisual gain, for easy-word measures but not the hardest tests — related
- Audiovisual presentation yields significantly higher sentence recognition than auditory-alone presentation for most children with cochlear implants — related
- Audiovisual sentence performance approximates the simple sum of unimodal scores, with no super-additive integration for familiar sentences — related
- Children in Oral Communication programs show higher speech intelligibility than children in Total Communication programs — related
