q3 i? In the CAB cohort-sequential study, children's SCAs and STVs were differentiated from each other and formed distinct factors in each domain from first grade, becoming more strongly differentiated with age; math gender differences disappeared over time. → Jacquelynne S. The Childhood and Beyond cohort-sequential study measured children yearly from first, second, and fourth grades into adulthood (sample 95% white). Children had no general cross-domain belief; anxieties did not differentiate by domain, and math gender differences disappeared over time.
"The key findings of this study were (1) children's SCAs and STVs were differentiated from each other in the first grade and become more strongly differentiated with age (Eccles et al., 1993); (2) children's SCAs and STVs formed distinct factors in each domain."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Confirmatory factor analyses show students' expectancies for success factor separately from their subjective task values, while expectancies and ability self-concepts factor together — related
- Girls show less confidence and interest in math and science from early adolescence, and a strong math/science self-concept predicts course choice and performance for both genders — related
- Student-level achievement positively predicts enjoyment in math, science, and reading among fourth graders — related
