q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.

This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.

q3 i? In one randomised trial included in this review (Breen et al., 2019), communication competence was achieved by 60% in the competency-based progression group versus 6.9% with e-learning alone and 13% with standard simulation (P<.001). → González-Sanz A 2026

q3 · i? · review · r3

Systematic review of 20 studies of simulation-based training for undergraduate nursing students and patient safety, synthesised narratively. The finding here comes from one included study, a randomised trial (Breen et al., 2019, Ireland) of 90 nursing and medical students in three groups (e-learning; e-learning plus standard simulation; e-learning plus competency-based progression simulation), assessed with a NEWS-based ISBAR communication tool. The review reports competence in 2/29 (7%), 3/23 (13%) and 15/25 (60%) of those assessed, with P<.001; this is one trial reported second-hand, not a pooled result.

"competency-based simulation combined with e-learning led to higher communication competence (60%) compared with e-learning alone (6.9%) and standard simulation (13%), using a clinical structured communication tool"
