Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q2 i? All teachers agreed Concept Catalyst would reduce their cognitive load because the AI could generate questions for them. → Gennie Mansi 2026
q2 i? Several teachers reported the interface's structure helped them quickly generate content they could more easily adjust. → Gennie Mansi 2026 (2)
Evidence¶

Exploratory Wizard-of-Oz study in which 10 middle and high school engineering teachers used a mock-up of Concept Catalyst during depth interviews. Affinity diagramming of interview transcripts yielded the efficiency theme: all teachers agreed it would reduce their cognitive load, with one noting the AI could "generate those questions for you".
"All teachers agreed Concept Catalyst would reduce their cognitive load because “instead of having to create your own questions the AI could generate those questions for you” (P3)."

Findings from the same WoZ interview study, in the diversity/efficiency results section: four teachers said the interface structure helped them "quickly generate content" that was easier to adjust, which they linked to lowering barriers to innovation and freeing time with students.
"P7, P8, P9, and P10 also voiced that the interface’s structure helped them quickly generate content that they could more easily adjust, lowering barriers to teacher innovation"

- Working Memory — outcome: instruction changes it
Related Claims¶
- The concept-map interface let teachers generate scaffolds matching their content focuses, class activities, and teaching styles — related
- Reading AI-generated scaffolds prompted teachers to reflect on and revise their classroom practices, and shifted initial AI hesitancy toward wanting students to use the tool — related
- Building the concept map supported teachers' reflection, helping them synthesize what students should learn and iterate on their plans — related
- Teachers judged the AI-generated scaffolds relevant and of similar quality to their own questions, though some felt the wording was too fancy or long and needed modification — related
- In a prior Wizard-of-Oz study, K-12 engineering teachers reported positive feedback on the efficiency, quality, and diversity of scaffold content produced with the Concept Catalyst framework — related
- Generative AI can help people finish tasks more quickly but does not accelerate learning itself — related
- Synchronous autonomous AI suggestions increased perceived writing efficiency but also caused distraction and mental overload during writing — related
- Teachers perceive that AI tools lower cognitive barriers and deepen students' conceptual understanding of abstract science content — related
