q2 i? In an ANOVA with conversation type nested within conversations, Real pairs scored significantly higher on accommodation than Constructed pairs, F(1, 76) = 1.88, p < .05. → Gweon 2013

Validation experiment on the Ottoman Empire corpus: accommodation scores were computed for 38 Real pairs and matched Constructed pairs whose turns preserved lexical content but could not reflect accommodation. The ANOVA comparison was significant, "F(1, 76) = 1.88, p < .05".
"The difference was significant F(1, 76) = 1.88, p < .05, with the average score for Constructed pairs being .52 with a standard deviation of .27, and for Real pairs .62 with a standard deviation of .31."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Speech-style accommodation correlates with prevalence of other-oriented transactions, enabling acoustic prediction of transactivity
- An automatic measure of speech style accommodation significantly positively correlates with prevalence of other-oriented transacts in dyadic debates (R = .36, p < .05) — related
