Reading the evidence codes

q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.

This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.

q2 i? At 18 of the 58 top CpGs (31%), brain methylation changes as a function of foetal age (r = −0.57 to 0.38); at 10 CpGs (17%), blood methylation correlates with methylation in at least one of four brain regions (r = 0.36 to 0.63). → Jenny van Dongen et al 2018

Look-up of the 58 top CpGs in two previously published Illumina 450k datasets of foetal brain development and matched post-mortem blood/brain samples. At 18 CpGs (31%) methylation changes as a function of foetal age (r = −0.57 to 0.38, p < 7.7 × 10−4); the strongest blood–brain correlation was cg05951221 (ALPPL2, r = 0.63 with superior temporal gyrus).

"At 10 of our top CpGs (17%), methylation level in blood correlates significantly with DNA methylation level in at least one out of four assessed brain regions, with correlations ranging from r = 0.36 to r = 0.63"
