Reading the evidence codes

q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.

This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.

q3 i? Controlling for pretest CELF-P and unit pretest scores, the main effect of group on vocabulary learning was large and statistically significant (Cohen's f2 = .70). → Goldstein et al. 2016 q3 i? Experimental-group learning exceeded comparison-group learning at every unit, from 7.2 times greater at the first unit to 1.9 times greater at the last. → Goldstein et al. 2016

Cluster randomized trial of 32 preschool classrooms in Ohio and Kansas; the Participants section and Table 1 report 163 children with low vocabulary enrolled (85 experimental, 78 comparison), although the abstract gives 195. Analysed using mixed Poisson regression; the group main effect was significant (group β = 1.58, p < .001, Cohen's f2 = .70), with "a mean gain of 3.40 word points per unit" versus 0.32 in the comparison group.

"The experimental group grew from a pretest mean of 0.60 word point ( SD = 0.25) to a posttest mean of 4.00 ( SD = 1.45), a mean gain of 3.40 word points per unit."
