Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q2 i? Exploratory structural equation modeling of 14 items showed the 3-factor solution (satisfaction, dissatisfaction, frustration) fit well and fit significantly better than a 2-factor solution combining dissatisfaction and frustration. → Sung Hyeon Cheon 2019

ESEM analysis (Mplus, MLR estimator, oblique rotation) of the 14 autonomy need-state items from the study's student sample. The 3-factor solution fit reasonably well (RMSEA = .051, CFI = .976) with well-defined factors and "minimal cross-loadings" across satisfaction, dissatisfaction, and frustration.
"The 3-factor solution provided a significantly better fit than did the alternative 2-factor solution (that combined the dissatisfaction and frustration items into a second factor; MD Δ X2 = 1,279.34, df = 12, p < .001; Δ CFI = .033)."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- An autonomy-supportive teaching intervention decreased students' autonomy dissatisfaction and frustration and increased autonomy satisfaction, while control-group dissatisfaction rose over the semester — related
- Intervention-enabled decreases in autonomy dissatisfaction uniquely predicted decreased end-of-semester disengagement after controlling for autonomy satisfaction and frustration — related
- The BPNSFS 3×2 six-facet structure (three needs × satisfaction/frustration) fits Australian school-leader data excellently and better than models collapsing valence — related
