Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i? Young adolescents were the only age group to show reduced n-back accuracy after exclusion compared to inclusion, in a 2x3 mixed-design experiment with 98 females. → Fuhrmann D. 2019

q3 · i? · causal · r2
Controlled experiment with 98 females in three age groups (young adolescents N=36, mid-adolescents N=35, adults N=27), each experiencing Cyberball inclusion and exclusion before n-back and dot-matrix tasks, analysed with GLMMs. The "significant interaction between Cyberball condition and age group" (χ2(2) = 7.87, p = 0.020) showed only young adolescents' accuracy dropped after exclusion; no effect size was printed.
"However, there was a significant interaction between Cyberball condition and age group (χ2(2) = 7.87, p = 0.020). Planned within-age-group contrasts showed that young adolescents were the only age group to show reduced n-back accuracy after exclusion compared to inclusion."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Cyberball exclusion lowers mood in young adolescents, mid-adolescents and adults alike
- Mood changes do not moderate the effect of exclusion on working memory performance
- Social exclusion shows no significant effect on n-back response times in any age group
- Social exclusion has no significant effect on visuo-spatial dot-matrix working memory accuracy in any age group — related
- Threat of an aversive scream lowers verbal working memory accuracy at low and medium load but not at high load in both adolescents and adults — related
