Analysis of achievement gaps in A and B schools (Figure 3) from the Oklahoma A–F evaluation shows FRL students scored "approximately .47 standard deviation units lower than Non-FRL students"; the printed effect size is a gap of .47 standard deviation units in 2012–2013, increasing to .54 standard deviation units in 2014, which the authors call a sizable difference of about 45 scale score units.
"For 2012 and 2013, FRL students scored approximately .47 standard deviation units lower than Non-FRL students. In 2014, this gap increased to .54 standard deviation units."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Oklahoma achievement declined rather than grew across 2012–2014 under the A–F letter grade system, with the largest drops in F schools — related
- Reading score distributions within A–F letter grades overlap heavily, so letter grades misrepresent the achievement of many individual students — related
