q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i3 Both groups significantly improved dexterity (fewer pipetting mistakes) from after the lesson to after the GLA. → Valdemar Stenberdt 2025
q3 i? The groups differed in dexterity errors after the GLA (p = 0.043, d = 0.339), but this difference was no longer significant after Bonferroni correction and there was no Condition × Time interaction. → Valdemar Stenberdt 2025
Evidence¶
Valdemar Stenberdt 2025¶
Valdemar Stenberdt, Ban Mouid Shiwalia, Guido Makransky. (2025). Re-Experiencing vs. Self-Explaining: Comparing Generative Learning Activities in VR. Educational Psychology Review. https://doi.org/10.1007/s10648-025-10096-2
q3 · i3 · causal · r3
Dexterity analysis on 146 participants (six extreme outliers excluded) in the VR pipetting experiment; z-score-normalized error counts. Post-hoc t-tests showed re-experiencing improved (d = 0.868) and self-explaining improved (d = 0.712), both p < 0.001. The post-GLA group difference (p = 0.043, d = 0.339) "disappeared after Bonferroni correction, and there was no significant interaction effect".
"A mixed ANOV A with Time as a within-subjects factor and Condition as a between-subjects factor showed a significant effect of Time, F(1, 144) = 57.060, p < 0.001, ηp2 = 0.284."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Corrective feedback plus either GLA significantly improved students' safety behavior in VR, with no difference between re-experiencing and self-explaining — related
- Both GLA groups showed a large, significant increase in pipetting self-efficacy, with no difference between conditions — related
- Self-explaining led to significantly higher written procedural knowledge than re-experiencing, opposite to the hypothesized direction — related
