Review of Goddard's examination of 1547 pupils in the Vineland, N. J., schools, in which pupils showed an almost normal curve of distribution about the at-age group, which Goddard took as evidence the tests are carefully graded age for age.
"He finds that only about half of the mentally "over age" and "under age" pupils show a corresponding advancement or retardation in their grading. Half of them are therefore said to be improperly graded."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Application of the Stanford Revision to 1000 non-selected children found the intelligence quotient a valid expression of intelligence, practically no sex differences, and social status not a disturbing influence on mental-age estimates. — related
- Scattering on the Binet scales does not support the claim that unequal development is the specific characteristic of the feeble-minded; normal pupils scatter most and imbeciles least — related
