Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q2 i? Seventy exercises were evaluated by the percentage of children solving each correctly and placed on a linear scale using the normal curve of probability, producing values from .03 to 6.4 units. → Greene 1928

Standardization study in which seventy mimeographed exercises were sent to cooperating school superintendents and principals and administered to children in grades three to eight. The article reports "1634 children in grades three to eight were used in the process", with exercise difficulty scaled by percentage correct on a linear scale via the normal curve, an application of Trabue's and Woody's methods.
"All told 1634 children in grades three to eight were used in the process. The evaluation was accomplished by using the percentage of children solving a given exercise correctly as a basis, and then placing the exercises in their relative positions on a linear scale by the use of the Normal curve of Probability."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Cumulative scoring of exercises in ascending difficulty yields a combined measure of rate and power, unlike last-exercise-solved power scoring — related
- The two test forms were built to pair exercises of closely the same value, equal total values, and similar inter-exercise intervals, with 100 total points per form
- Percentile-difference scales are crude and embody a fundamental fallacy because percentile units are not equal intervals — related
- Specific arithmetic problems were identified as troublesome through percentage analysis of test solutions — a narrower finding that bears on this claim
