From student interviews in the Australian mixed-method study in two Victorian Islamic schools. Students said that in an outside school they would feel abandoned and picked on, while at the Islamic school they had a support group and could focus on study rather than worrying.
"The students at the Islamic college feel more insulated from some of the pressures in Australian society – pressures associated with recent international events, tensions and world terrorism – and that the school is a kind of safe haven within which students can just be themselves and concentrate on their learning."
