Animal-model work in bobwhite quail, a species sensitive to intersensory redundancy, compared prenatal exposure to synchronous multisensory stimulation against asynchronous and unisensory exposure, finding enhanced learning and memory only under "synchronous multisensory" conditions. Subsequent work showed brief synchronized exposure sufficed and prepared offspring to recognize the call in isolation.

"Quail embryos exhibited enhanced learning and memory for a mother's call when prenatally exposed to synchronous multisensory (i.e., mother's song presented in conjunction with a temporally aligned patterned light stimulus) but not asynchronous or unisensory (i.e.,mother's vocalization alone) information"
