Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q2 i? Eight of the 15 measures test only a single type of learning outcome; only three measures test three or more. → M. van Loon 2026
q2 i? Only four measures included knowledge items, though knowledge items were the second most frequent item type overall with 109 items. → M. van Loon 2026

Learning-outcome analysis using the Katsarov et al. framework (sensitivity, knowledge, attitude, judgement, behaviour). Eight measures tested attitudes, six sensitivity, six judgement, and two behaviour; some measures were devoted entirely to one outcome type, e.g. attitude-only HIT-Res, VSW and LCRE.
"The RCR Knowledge measure and the REKASA, as well as the RCR Survey, were the only measures to test three or more different learning outcomes (Fig. 5). 8 out of 15 measures only test a single type of learning outcome."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Fifteen unique RCR outcome measures with supporting validation evidence were identified, all covering research integrity but only ten covering research ethics
- The majority of published RCR education evaluations use measures without reported validation evidence
- Validated RCR measures omit emerging and social-safety topics including EDI, whistleblower protections, AI use in research, predatory journals and open-science practices
- Mono-disciplinary RCR courses were not more effective than multi-domain courses, contradicting prior reviews — related
- Validation evidence across the 15 RCR measures is partial and heterogeneous, with no test–retest, criterion validity or factor-analytic evidence reported — related
