Study by Greenleaf et al. (2011) of California high school biology teachers in 10 sessions of inquiry-based, collaborative PD over a year, immersing teachers in the learning activities they would create for students. The report describes the quoted gains versus control group.

"This multimodal, active learning PD model resulted in student achievement equivalent to a year's reading growth compared with students of teachers assigned to a control group. Students of treatment teachers also performed better than their counterparts in control classrooms on state assessments in English language arts and biology."
