q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i? In the final univariate models, SES accounted for .04 units (9%) of variance in motivation and .18 units (28%) of variance in math scores. → Tucker-Drob 2011

Univariate behavioral genetic models of the ECLS-B twin sample. The motivation model's final step reported SES accounting for .04 units of variance (9%) in motivation; the math model reported the 28% figure quoted above.
"In this final model, SES accounts for .18 units of variance (28%) in math scores. Of the remaining variation in math scores, the shared environment accounts for .28 units of variance (60%), the nonshared environment accounts for .10 units of variance (21%), and genes account for an average of .09 units of variance (19%), although this latter figure varies positively with SES."
Discussion¶
Learner Variables¶
- Socioeconomic Status — predictor: outcomes differ by group: a gap reflecting circumstances and treatment, not a cause
Related Claims¶
- Genes account for negligible variance in four-year-olds' math scores at very low SES but over 40% at very high SES — related
- Genetic differences in learning motivation are more strongly predictive of math achievement among four-year-olds in higher-SES homes — related
- Genetic variance in learning motivation fully mediates the gene-by-SES interaction on four-year-olds' math achievement — related
- SES does not moderate genetic, shared, or nonshared environmental variance in four-year-olds' learning motivation — related
- The reverse math-to-motivation genetic pathway is not moderated by SES, supporting a directional motivation-to-achievement relation — related
