Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i3 Experimental-group students spent 18% of time on major peer edits versus 9% in control, a statistically significant difference (r = .44); minor edits did not differ significantly. → Maya Usher 2025

Lab experiment with 62 undergraduates; screen-capture recordings of a 40-minute OCW task coded in 30-second intervals, compared with Mann–Whitney U tests. Major peer edits: experimental M = 18% (SD = 10) vs control M = 9% (SD = 10); the difference was "statistically significant for major edits" with r = .44, while minor edits were non-significant.
"These differences were statistically significant for major edits (U (32,30) = 234, Z = -3.46, p <.001, r =.44) and non-significant for minor edits."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Undergraduate students in asynchronous OCW experience hesitation to edit peers' written products and coordination difficulties about next steps — related
- SITU use doubled words added and multiplied fivefold words deleted from peers' paragraphs, and nearly doubled paragraphs receiving major edits — related
- SITU use reduced time to first major peer action by more than 50% — related
- Editing by readiness level: word additions did not differ by group, but deletion patterns differed, with SITU users refraining from deleting words from paragraphs marked ready — related
- SITU use more than halved off-document web surfing during the OCW task — related
