Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i? Compared with the BOTH/2 condition, significantly more fluid gestures and significantly fewer interactive gestures were used under the ONE condition. → Xinyue Wang 2024

Repeated-measures ANOVA on gesture counts across BOTH, BOTH/2 and ONE conditions in the 27-dyad experiment (Fig. 3b). The article interprets: "when only one person could gesture, they tended to reduce the use of interactive gestures and compensate by using isolated, fluid gestures". No effect sizes printed for this contrast.
"Results showed that compared to the‘BOTH/2’condition, significantly morefluid gestures were used under the‘ONE’condition, while significantly fewer interactive gestures were found (Fig.3b, Supplementary Table 1 and 2)."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Dyads in which both participants could gesture produced higher team originality and more combined ideas than dyads in which one or neither could gesture — related
- Fluid gestures accompany the superior intra-brain state (State 1) of the gesturing participant, whose occurrence rate correlates with fluency — related
- Number of interactive gestures correlates positively with team originality and fluency, and number of fluid gestures with individual fluency — related
- Behaviour locking shows interactive gestures accompany the superior inter-brain state (State 1), while the absence of gestures accompanies the inferior state under ONE — related
