q3 i3 Grade 7 students' sorting-task network overlap with the expert Qin network correlated significantly with Qin test scores (r = 0.25) and Unit 3 exam scores (r = 0.37) one month after the exam. → Chen 2025

Study 1 correlational analysis of 255 grade 7 students who completed a computer sorting task of 43 Qin Dynasty topic terms one month after the Unit 3 exam. Pearson correlations showed "correlation coefficient between overlaps and score on Unit 3 was r = 0.37, p <.001" and r = 0.25 with the Qin test.
"The correlation coefficient between overlaps and score on Qin was r = 0.25, p <.001, between scores on Qin and Unit 3 was r = 0.58, p <.001, and most interestingly, correlation coefficient between overlaps and score on Unit 3 was r = 0.37, p <.001."

Related Claims¶
- Graph centrality of students' sorting-task networks showed no relationship to expert-network overlap or to posttest scores in either study — related
- Under self-directed learning, sorting-task network overlap correlates significantly with immediate and one-month-delayed posttest scores — related
- Sorting tasks elicited networks with more expert overlap than essay writing, suggesting sorting better captures nascent conceptual structures — related
