Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i? Teachers' relative and absolute monitoring accuracy were more accurate when student cues were available in addition to performance cues than when only performance cues were available. → Janneke van de Pol 2021

q3 · i? · causal · r2
Within-subjects experiment in which 21 secondary education teachers judged five students per cue-availability condition; multilevel models with Bonferroni-corrected alpha showed "more accurate in the name + diagram condition than in the diagram-only condition" for both relative and absolute monitoring accuracy.
"Moreover, opposite to what we expected (H1.2), teachers' relative (b = 0.24, SE = 0.11, p = 0.02) and absolute (b = -0.27, SE = 0.08, p = 0.001) monitoring was more accurate in the name + diagram condition than in the diagram-only condition."
Discussion¶
Learner Variables¶
- Metacognition — outcome: instruction changes it
Related Claims¶
- Monitoring accuracy predicts comprehension-based regulation accuracy, and cue availability also has an indirect effect on regulation accuracy via monitoring accuracy — related
- Teachers' monitoring accuracy does not differ significantly between the name-only condition and either diagram condition — related
- Pre-structured diagrams improved metacomprehension accuracy while self-assessment cues showed no differences — related
- Adding diagram self-assessment to diagram completion does not increase diagnostic cue utilization or metacomprehension accuracy beyond diagramming alone — related
- Thinking aloud does not affect teachers' monitoring accuracy — related
