Section III reports yearly increases in Alpha medians across surveyed schools (Tables X and XI). The article attributes the gains jointly to mental growth, temporary effects of instruction, and educational selection, and cannot apportion them exactly: "the exact amount which is due to this cause is at present impossible" to determine.
"The average figures from Table X are, from freshman to sophomore year, 15 points; from sophomore to junior year, 10 points; and from junior to senior year, 4 points."
