Description¶
A real-time observational coding protocol in which coders watch video of small groups without a transcript and note the exact time of changes in vocal register, affect, grammar, gesture production, and body language. Clusters are labeled with meaning-neutral labels (colors), at least two researchers code independently, and whole groups can be coded reliably because "peers typically share the same behavioral cluster." The method achieved 90% inter-rater reliability before discussion, to five seconds' accuracy.
Accounts¶
- Behavioral coding methodology for identifying epistemological framing in group video: A real-time observational coding protocol in which coders watch video of small groups without a transcript and note the exact time of changes in vocal register, affect, grammar, gesture production, and body language. The method achieved 90% inter-rater reliability before discussion, to five seconds' accuracy. (Rachel E. Scherr et al. (2007))
Claims¶
- Four distinct, reliably codable behavioral clusters appear in collaborative tutorial video data [+M]
