Description¶
The idiodynamic method tracks moment-to-moment changes in subjective emotional intensity during communication events. Operationally, "the idiodynamic method relies on post hoc recalling of language behaviours stimulated by according video": participants review recordings of short communication episodes and continuously rate target factors by pressing buttons indicating increases or decreases, with ratings returning to a neutral value when no button is pressed. The review reports it has revealed that anxiety and enjoyment levels can vary significantly within a single task or interaction, but that correlation-based analyses still yield largely static results.
