Description

The review advocates a network approach in which motivation and achievement constructs are nodes and bidirectional partial correlations are edges, so constructs emerge empirically as clusters rather than being assumed a priori. "The network approach is different; it does not assume an a priori structure of motivation factors." Central nodes are proposed as efficient intervention targets: in Sachisthal et al.'s science-interest study, "enjoyment emerged as the central node in the network of Dutch students, whereas engagement behaviors emerged as central in the network of Colombian students", so different intervention approaches were advised for the two countries.
