Apply goal-line decision rules to CBM data to adjust IEP goals or revise instruction¶

Description¶
At tertiary prevention, standard decision rules guide whether to raise a goal or change instruction. If "the most recent 4 consecutive CBM scores are above the goal-line, the student's end-of-year performance goal needs to be increased"; if below, the teacher revises the instructional program; if approximating the goal-line, no change is needed. Parallel rules apply to trend-lines versus goal-lines, and the end-of-year goal and goal-line are never decreased.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Weekly CBM data graphed against a goal-line, with re-evaluation after another 7-8 data points following any change
Constraints¶
- The article notes these decision rules could also inform secondary prevention decisions, but Highland Park uses slope data instead at that level
Target Learners¶
- Students in special education with individualized math programs
Target Learning Goals¶
- Setting and adjusting IEP goals
- Deciding when instructional programs need revision
