Allocate revision time economically by concentrating self-testing on the box of not-yet-known items¶

Description¶
The learning unit lets the student see at a glance his command of the vocabulary he is expected to know and allot revision time in the most economical way. When time is short, the student concentrates on only the box of items answered wrongly or not at all, which the author hopes will contain the fewest cards; familiar items move to a fourth box checked only annually or before examinations.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A functioning learning unit with cards sorted into performance boxes after each self-test
Constraints¶
- When time is short the strategy applies; for general purposes the author notes target-to-native testing is probably the better test, though native-to-target testing is possible by reversing the cards
Target Learners¶
- foreign language students revising vocabulary independently
Target Learning Goals¶
- efficient allocation of vocabulary revision time
