Use conditional growth percentiles to judge whether a student grew like their academic peers¶

Description¶
This strategy replaces binary met/not-met growth targets with a normative comparison of a student's growth to similar students nationwide. The report states: "With accompanying conditional growth percentiles, norms t ell educators if students made growth con- sistent with their academic peers." Educators can thereby "understand the extent and magnitude by which a student's growth exceede d or lagged the growth observed for other similar students," supporting goal setting and instructional individualization.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Student's prior achievement level and current score, looked up against the conditional growth percentile tables
Constraints¶
Target Learners¶
- K-12 students
Target Learning Goals¶
- evaluating individual student growth relative to academic peers
