Description¶
The author adapted speaking tasks suggested by textbooks or found on the internet to become immediate repetition tasks, normally performed in the last half an hour of class allowing at least three cycles. Immediate repetition tasks generally have "an interlocutor change and/or a task alteration", and the author states that opportunities for designing and employing such tasks are limitless and invites teachers to adapt the described tasks and create their own.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- The underlying activity must fulfil the requirements of a task (primary focus on meaning, information gap, learner-chosen language, non-linguistic goal) rather than an activity
Constraints¶
- The paper's aim is not to prescribe a set of tasks disconnected from the rest of the lessons; tasks should be part of a task-based approach
Target Learners¶
- additional language learners from beginners to upper-intermediate, aged 12 to 55
Target Learning Goals¶
- speaking fluency and accuracy through meaningful repeated task performance
