Description

Project CRISS® "employs a teaching and learning process in which teachers model strategies for students and provide time for guided practice," with goals of helping students understand their learning processes and transfer strategies to independent learning. The professional development model mirrors this: initial training (12 hours in the 1994 study; 18 hours plus six hours of follow-up in the 2009 trial) in which trainers model strategies and teachers apply them to their own curriculum materials, followed by on-site visits, demonstration lessons, newsletters, a computer network, monthly observations with feedback, and bi-weekly study teams.
