Demonstrate solution benefits through participant perspectives, direct experience, and foregrounded student voice¶
Strategy · All strategies
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
Because longer-term equitable student outcomes lag behind implementation, the article recommends substantiating benefit through direct participants' perspectives, firsthand experience such as live demonstrations and observations, and amplifying student voice. The research "pointed to the importance of substantiating benefit from the perspectives of direct participants; through firsthand experience with the solution; and by amplifying student voice in characterizing the problem" and advocating for the solution, which participants treated as indicators of longer-term outcomes still to come.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Solutions must yield benefits the district-community team intended, since garnering resources is only likely if the solution yields those benefits
Constraints¶
- Some benefits are context-embedded and require insider knowledge of local mindsets and norms to perceive, and would not be obvious to an outsider
Target Learners¶
- Students from historically and systematically excluded communities and the educators serving them
Target Learning Goals¶
- Making the case for sustaining solutions such as Socratic Circles, compact writing assignments, and student-led professional development
Related Strategies¶
- Recruit volunteer implementers first to generate small wins, models, and critical mass for change
- Volunteer-first faculty recruitment with modeling of good practice rather than top-down mandates
