Description¶
This strategy uses assessment results to tailor mathematics instruction: students take a diagnostic assessment, and software sequences topics and skills into an individualized learning path targeting what each student needs to practice. The report notes "Teachers can modify learning paths to match their lesson plans or to align them with district scopes and sequences," keeping the teacher in control of the generated sequence. Assessment tools also generate data teachers can use for instructional decision making.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A diagnostic assessment aligned with local or state standards
- teacher access to the program's assessment tools or imported assessments such as NWEA MAP, Scantron Performance Series, or STAR
Constraints¶
- The reviewed evidence covers grades 4–8 use as a supplement or partial replacement; effects for the program as a standalone curriculum were not separately rated
Target Learners¶
- primary and middle-grades students in grades K–8
- low-performing math students identified by benchmark assessment
Target Learning Goals¶
- individualized practice of needed mathematics skills and knowledge
