Deliver FF tutoring and family engagement through a distance-learning version when in-person schooling is disrupted¶

Description¶
The report describes a distance-learning adaptation of Future Forward designed so that "students and families can continue to receive literacy supports during the pandemic." EA designed this modified delivery model for the 2020-21 school year, and the ongoing evaluation will test its impact on student achievement. The authors frame it as an opportunity to test an alternate delivery method that, if effective, would give schools and families more flexibility.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A modified program design capable of delivering tutoring and family engagement remotely
- An evaluation design able to measure impact on student achievement under pandemic conditions
Constraints¶
- The 2020-21 evaluation will only measure impact on student achievement, not attendance, because many schools continued distance learning
Target Learners¶
- Kindergarten, first, and second grade students in FF program schools during pandemic-related school closures
Target Learning Goals¶
- Early literacy development
- Continuity of literacy supports and family engagement during disrupted schooling
