During a study, researchers should visit regularly, give back to the school community, minimize classroom disruption, and share initial data for feedback¶
Strategy · All strategies

Description¶
This strategy keeps researchers present and useful throughout data collection: visit regularly not only to collect data but to continue conversations, get to know the school environment, and give back; be unintrusive with a light footprint; and share initial data in staff meetings, inviting feedback and questions for later phases. Uncapher's team made an estimated 20-30 site visits per school, presented Brain Day events, and shared learning-sciences findings applicable in classrooms.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Well-trained research staff who know the intention to have as light a footprint as possible
- Advance communication of logistical details such as who would be in the school, when, and for how long
Constraints¶
- Having outsiders in the classroom can be distracting and time-consuming, so intrusion must be minimized
Target Learners¶
- elementary and middle school students
Target Learning Goals¶
- metacognitive awareness and application of neuroscience findings to learning
Related Strategies¶
- After a study, present final data in school-useful forms, remain available for ongoing conversations, and plan carefully to avoid data overload
- Before a study, researchers should present the proposal to district administration, hold conversations with administrators and teachers, and host parent events to build buy-in
- Multi-stakeholder analytics partnership using improvement science with strict data governance
- Pair movement-based analysis with temporal analysis and discuss camera intrusiveness when collecting detailed data
