Support faculty AI adoption by engaging beliefs about disciplinary thinking, not only access and technical training

Description

The article recommends that efforts to support AI adoption "must help faculty concep- tualize and articulate how AI might support disciplinary thinking in their context, as well as constraints necessary so that important developmental stages are not short- circuited." Because respondents differed in how they interpreted AI's benefits and limitations, efforts focusing solely on access and technical training may be insufficient if they do not engage participants' beliefs about thinking and learning. Support may include developing strategies for evaluating AI outputs, identifying appropriate contexts for delegation of thinking, and designing tasks requiring validation and revision of AI-generated work.
