Description¶
The dialogue's contributors converge on institutional actions: developing inclusive guidelines for linguistic variation, promoting critical GenAI literacy, and providing editing support, so that reviewers, editors and PhD supervisors do not treat divergence from dominant norms as error. Sender proposes that "institutions should be very clear that they have equity-informed artificial intelligence policies that will encourage writers and reviewers to just avoid the automatic standardisation of English", and that journals ask writers to declare the extent of AI use (an AID Statement). Reviewers using GenAI should be critically aware of World Englishes variation and provided resources to familiarise themselves with it.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Institutional policies must be co-designed with stakeholders including government agencies; reviewers need resources on World Englishes
Constraints¶
- The article notes no single measure will suffice and that some journals already ban AI in peer review because AI-assisted assessment can flatten nuances and misinterpret culturally grounded expressions
Target Learners¶
- Journal reviewers and editors, PhD supervisors and examiners, academic writers
Target Learning Goals¶
- Fair evaluation of manuscripts written in non-dominant Englishes; transparent and ethical GenAI use
Affordances¶
- Algorithmic Colonialingualism
