Extend the alignment framework to machine translation evaluation and cross-lingual summarization, with recalibrated λ¶

Description¶
The article proposes adapting MuTSE for Machine Translation evaluation and cross-lingual summarization as a natural extension, since the primary alignment tier already uses a multilingual embedding model capable of processing over 50 languages and the secondary TF-IDF tier captures cross-lingual morphological roots via character n-grams. It cautions that verifying MT outputs "would require recalibrating the linearity bias heuristic (λ), as cross-lingual syntactic restructuring may not strictly adhere to the monotonic sentence order typically observed in monolingual simplification."
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Recalibration of the λ heuristic for cross-lingual settings where monotonic sentence order may not hold
Constraints¶
- The current implementation is highly optimized for simplification; MT evaluation is future work, not an implemented feature
Target Learners¶
- Researchers evaluating machine translation and cross-lingual summarization outputs
Target Learning Goals¶
- Evaluation of generated text across natural language generation tasks
Related Strategies¶
- Extend educational LLM benchmarking toward multilingual contexts, real classroom interaction data, and targeted training for identified capability gaps
- Future directions: cross-component comparisons and multilingual embeddings for course overlap
