Description¶
An implementable instructional recipe derived from the article's reformulation: begin with the least embodied, task-relevant support a learner needs, then progressively withdraw it. The article instructs designers to "use the least embodied, task-relevant support needed for the learner's current knowledge and the task's element interactivity, then fade that support as schemas develop", so that support tracks growing schema development.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Assess the learner's current knowledge and the task's element interactivity before selecting the level of embodied support
Constraints¶
- Formulated for embodied instruction in STEM
Target Learners¶
- STEM novices early in expertise development
Target Learning Goals¶
- Schema construction and flexible use of formal representations
