Description¶
Technology coaches in the study describe concrete tactics for encouraging Forms adoption among “cautious adopter” teachers. Three coaches initially “sell” Forms from a time-savings angle because data is captured automatically, and one coach emphasizes student demand for instant feedback. A Scottish coach’s maxim is that “one of the best ways to get teachers to want to use Forms is to give them a Form” during training, after which roughly half of staff ask how it was created.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Teachers have access to Forms, ideally district-supported; training time is limited, so experiencing a Form must substitute for formal sessions
Constraints¶
- Coaches reported cautious adopters balk when technology does not work seamlessly the first time, discouraging future use
Target Learners¶
- teachers and school staff adopting classroom technology
Target Learning Goals¶
- technology adoption for formative assessment and instruction
Related Strategies¶
- Employ a non-coercive, facilitative organizational change strategy that lets teachers pursue individualized adoption at their own pace, supported by training aimed at informational and management concerns
- Provide targeted professional development to encourage teacher understanding and use of learner-variability features
