Four-question public template for high-stakes AI assessment tasks¶

Description¶
The article recommends operationalizing stewardship through a short public template rather than a long rulebook. "For each high-stakes task, the template can ask four questions: what capacity is certified, what help is allowed, what evidence remains, and what protection or appeal route applies?" The template should also state when no extra evidence is needed, to avoid turning ordinary AI interactions into compliance events. It pairs with program-level review that names credential claims before individual assignments vary.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Central units set procurement, privacy, accessibility, and appeal rules; programs define credential claims; instructors choose proportionate task evidence
Constraints¶
- Reserved for high-stakes tasks; low-stakes work may need only clear AI-use statements, source maps, short reflection memos, or in-class checkpoints
Target Learners¶
- higher education students
- university program and policy leads
Target Learning Goals¶
- making certification logic visible before assessment
Affordances¶
- Cognitive Stewardship Framework
Claims¶
Related Strategies¶
- Foster communities of practice for AI governance instead of rigid top-down policies
- Formative friction: require goal statements, alternative comparison, and justification before high-stakes delegation, kept proportionate and accessible
