Description

From study findings, the report offers four interrelated recommendations: present data collection and representation methods in ways that enable increased focus on mathematical reasoning; explicitly highlight the role of data in enabling students to make their scientific claims more powerful; use open-ended questioning to elicit and advance student mathematical reasoning; and devote more time and attention to scientific sensemaking, which can enable mathematical thinking. The report frames these as instructional conjectures for continued investigation, with roles for districts, instructional designers, and PL designers.
