Use game-generated reports to inform tutors and assign targeted follow-up work¶
Strategy · All strategies
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
This strategy interweaves gameplay with tutoring: when students play the game, "reports were generated for tutors on what concepts students might be struggling to understand", and tutors can assign follow-up work in the game and receive a report on that work. The authors credit this integration with letting tutors target the areas of fraction understanding most in need and with providing students extra practice.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A shared game platform that generates per-student reports on concepts students struggle with
- Tutors able to assign follow-up work in the game and receive reports on it
Constraints¶
- In this design the contribution of the tutoring and gameplay components cannot be analytically separated
Target Learners¶
- Elementary students receiving supplementary tutoring in mathematics
Target Learning Goals¶
- Targeted remediation of fraction misconceptions
