Teach video analysis by hand, in real time, without automation layers for non-science majors¶

Description¶
Although the software supports automatic video position analysis, the course has students find the position in each frame by hand and demonstrates analysis in real time. The authors state "we feel that it is essential to show this analysis in real-time without too many layers of automation in order for them to develop basic skills and understanding", and as students build skills, steps are left out in subsequent weeks.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- LoggerPro or similar plotting and analysis software
- in-class computer for real-time demonstration
Constraints¶
- Motivated by a student population consisting primarily of non-science majors
Target Learners¶
- non-science-major undergraduates
Target Learning Goals¶
- basic data-analysis skills
- understanding how position, velocity and acceleration data are derived
