Description¶
The study prepared a set of strategic tips for IELTS listening, drawn from IELTS books, with which learners were instructed during treatment. The tips include reading the questions first, checking grammar to predict answers and guess from context, highlighting content words because it "strengthens our short term memory and helps us to simultaneously listen and read," identifying questions needing skimming versus scanning, practicing number discrimination, and managing time efficiently. The strategy instruction accompanied a wide range of listening input from task-based books used intensively in class and as out-of-class activities.
