Organise Embodied Hands-on and Cognitive Hands-on deliberately according to different learning objectives¶

Description¶
The review recommends that design education organise the relationship between Embodied Hands-on and Cognitive Hands-on deliberately according to different learning objectives, rather than treating the forms as interchangeable or rejecting AI. Embodied Hands-on may more directly support real-world testing, while Cognitive Hands-on may strengthen comparison and judgement. The most urgent challenge is how process-oriented learning can be deliberately supported within human–AI collaborative workflows.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Students must remain involved in action, judgement, reflection, and refinement for the educational value of either form to be preserved
Constraints¶
- The framework underlying this recommendation is conceptual and not yet empirically tested
Target Learners¶
- design students in higher education
Target Learning Goals¶
- design judgement
- creative agency
- metacognitive awareness in human–AI collaboration
