Treat Precision Education as organizational transformation: add advising capacity, response protocols, and financial supports around the model¶
Strategy · All strategies
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
The paper argues technology is necessary but far from sufficient: at Georgia State "the model was the smallest component," with effect coming from added advising staff, defined response protocols, financial supports, and sustained leadership. Readiness conditions include an integrated, governed data pipeline; advising capacity sufficient to respond to alerts, since "an alert with no responder is worse than no alert"; institutional ownership of model validation and fairness auditing; and change management bringing faculty and advisors into design.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Integrated data infrastructure across admissions, student information, LMS, financial aid, advising, and outcomes systems
- Sufficient advising capacity to respond to what the system detects
- Institutional research and data governance functions owning validation and auditing
Constraints¶
- Human advising contact is expensive and does not scale as cheaply as a chatbot; under-resourced institutions may be unable to build such platforms, risking widened institutional inequality
Target Learners¶
- higher education students
- advisors and institutional staff
Target Learning Goals¶
- institutional capacity to act on early risk detection
- sustained improvement in graduation outcomes
Related Strategies¶
- Reduce institutional barriers through cross-department coordination, low-barrier review models, and faculty-based outreach
- Integrate background grade-prediction models into early alert advising systems
